I Spy

Sadly I have to admit I don’t have time to watch as many music videos/web videos as I probably should for inspiration and artistic theft… but I did stumble across this one…

It’s delightful (like the track too).

Hit play and giggle.

Oh, and you’re welcome.

This is an eerie little ad for… um… actually, you should just watch it.

Deep End

Filmmaker Darren Aronofsky did a series of cautionary PSA’s for the Meth Project which are really disturbing and super-good.

I heard about them on the twitter and looked them up. The one I’m posting above feels the most successful to me. Here’s to hoping they impact the desired audience.

GPS

I have a GPS and this is exactly what it does. A smart and really really funny ad.

Gumbel

Boosted this from the Tumblr of Barry Jenkins, he says:

My man DeMorge Brown’s new webseries “Gumbel”. The first three minutes are spot on homage to flicks like Sexy Beast, very English, very LA, very damn funny

  • “Sexy Beast-ish” – Check!
  • “Very English” – Check!
  • “Very LA” – I wouldn’t know… anybody?

Oh and “very damn funny” – Check!!

By the way, the sound design is spot on at the beginning (and the music)… digging it.

Love The Game

The NBA’s cancelled another two weeks of the season.

GRRRRRR.

With all of this writing and teaching I’ve been doing… I’m slowly losing my mind. I need some basketball to soothe my soul and dull my mind.

Oh well, till then… enjoy this sweet Ad.

Splitscreen: A Love Story

Shot entirely on the Nokia N8 mobile phone and winner of the Nokia Shorts competition 2011. From Director JW Griffiths.

Cool concept and well executed.

Baths – Lovely Bloodflow

In keeping with my theme of music-videos-as-films here’s another delicious music/narrative from directors Alex Takacs and Joe Nankin.

Ads I like – I’m really falling in love with these ads from the NBA playoffs. Here’s another one but I think you have to know a bit of history to get this one.

Cheeba

Extended web version music video for “Cheeba” by Shafiq (Sa-Ra) feat. Bilal that incorporates several pieces of music off of Shafiq’s debut solo album En A-Free-Ka.

This piece was greatly inspired by the Thelonious Monk documentary “Straight No Chaser.”

Another nice one from the same team who brought you “Oshun and the Dream”.

Oshun and the Dream

Now-Again Records and What Matters Most present a short film duo entitled “The Model,” inspired by the recently released Seu Jorge and Almaz album by Brazilian singer and actor Seu Jorge.

In chapter two we get treated to Marcello’s (Seu Jorge) hypnotic take on his dreams and how they involve music and the image of a mysterious woman… Struggling to decipher his dreams from reality, Marcello attempts to make sense of it all.

Bold Choice

Ads I like – I love the style of this spot and Willem Dafoe is a virtual chameleon.

.4 Second Shot

Ads I like – This spot is funny. And if i’m not mistaken that’s Charlie Murphy’s voice… classic.
